UE/R: Bongo DCE rallies residents for collective action as Assembly cleans Bongo-Soe market

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bongo in the Upper East Region, Joseph Abaah Akasake, has called on residents to embrace collective responsibility for sanitation after leading a major clean-up exercise at the Bongo-Soe Market.

The exercise, organized by the Bongo District Assembly, brought together a wide range of participants, including the Member of Parliament for the constituency, the area chief, assembly members, and community volunteers. Together, they scrubbed, swept, and desilted the market while raising awareness about environmental cleanliness and public health.

Speaking to News Net Gh, Mr. Akasake disclosed that similar exercises would soon be extended to all six area councils and one town council in the district. As part of immediate measures, five temporary sanitation workers have been stationed at each market center to maintain cleanliness until permanent sweepers are recruited.

“I appeal to every household, institution, and public place to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean. Sanitation is a collective duty, and we must all do our part,” he urged.

The DCE further highlighted that the initiative falls in line with the national sanitation agenda championed by President John Dramani Mahama and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, stressing that a cleaner Ghana requires the participation of all citizens.

The Bongo Assembly’s move underscores its commitment to improving public health and environmental sustainability, setting a model for community-driven sanitation campaigns across the Upper East Region.
