Otto Addo’s performance ‘not impressive’ — Sports Minister Kofi Adams

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, stressing that the national team cannot continue on its current trajectory of underwhelming results.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, Mr. Adams said even the coach himself admits to mistakes but that repeated excuses are no longer acceptable.

“If I tell you I am impressed, then it means I do not know my job. I am not. There is a lot of room for improvement. Even when you meet the coach himself, he admits that he got things wrong and takes responsibility. But the question is, for how long will you continue to take blame for wrong decisions?” he quizzed.

The Black Stars’ technical team has come under intense public scrutiny following a string of poor outings, including the team’s failure to defeat Chad. Calls have mounted for Otto Addo to be replaced with a more competent coach.

Touching on Ghana’s absence from the upcoming AFCON in Morocco, Kofi Adams lamented:

“Very soon, AFCON is going to start in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No, we will watch on TV.”

On Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign, he cautioned that the country is not yet safe.

“We have not even qualified for the World Cup yet. We still need a win and at least a draw to comfortably say that, as far as our group is concerned, nobody can overtake us.”

With pressure mounting, all eyes are now on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Sports Ministry to determine Otto Addo’s future as the Black Stars struggle to regain their glory days.
