Rap sensation Soorebia has sparked a fresh debate in the Upper East music scene after calling out emerging artistes who he says have mistaken viral popularity for true industry status.
Speaking in an interview on Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM, the award-winning rapper cautioned young musicians against prematurely placing themselves on the same pedestal as established acts.
According to Soorebia, many up-and-coming artistes are blinded by short-term hype and fail to acknowledge the difference between momentary buzz and consistent musical excellence.
“The problem here is that those who are not as big, don’t want to accept that they are not as big. You do one song and you are popular. You think that you and the people who have been doing songs consistently are the same, they’re the ones who are being delusional,” he stated.
His remarks come at a time when the Northern Ghana music scene, particularly in the Upper East Region, has witnessed a surge of new talents leveraging TikTok trends, viral challenges and street buzz to gain attention.
While the movement has energized the industry, Soorebia believes some artistes confuse early hype with long-term success.
