Energy Analyst and New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, has thrown his weight behind President John Dramani Mahama’s push to sanitize Ghana’s online space, describing the initiative as timely and necessary.
In an interview on Wontumi TV, Mr. Poku expressed concern over the rampant abuse of social media, where insults, fake news, and misinformation dominate public discourse.
“It’s sad to see someone who cannot stand before you physically to insult you, but because of social media that same person can rain insults on you anytime he wants,” he lamented.
He stressed that President Mahama’s directive to restore civility online should be welcomed by all, regardless of political affiliation.
“I am calling on Ghanaians to support the President in sanitizing the online space to bring back dignity,” he added.
His comments come after President Mahama, during a media engagement at Jubilee House on Wednesday, September 10, revealed that the National Signals Bureau (NSB) has been equipped with advanced technology to track perpetrators of hate speech, fake accounts, and online incitement.
The President warned that the era of hiding behind anonymity to engage in digital misconduct was coming to an end.
