The Northern Region has reached a landmark achievement by completing the confirmation of District Chief Executives (DCEs) for all 16 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), following unanimous approvals in the Kpandai and Tatale-Sanguli districts.
The final confirmations, led by Northern Regional Minister Hon. Ali Adolf John Mburidiba, took place on June 23 and June 25, 2025, marking the end of the region-wide process aimed at strengthening local governance and accelerating development.
On Monday, June 23, Hon. Haruna Abdul Karim was overwhelmingly confirmed as DCE for Kpandai District, securing all 39 votes from the Assembly. Two days later, Hon. Mary Tagbo was confirmed as the DCE for Tatale-Sanguli District, also earning 100% of the 38 votes cast.
“These results are a testament to the confidence our assemblies have in their local leaders. I urge all stakeholders to rally behind these DCEs as we work together to build a stronger, more prosperous Northern Region,” Hon. Mburidiba stated.
Both newly confirmed DCEs expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for entrusting them with the opportunity to serve, and pledged to prioritize unity, development, and responsive governance in their respective districts.
In a rare show of regional solidarity, the ceremonies were attended by all previously confirmed MMDCEs, highlighting a renewed commitment to collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and collective problem-solving across the region.
With all 16 MMDAs now having confirmed DCEs, the Northern Region is poised for coordinated progress, marking a significant step toward inclusive governance and sustainable development.
