Mahama donate sanitation tools to BuzStop Boys at relaunch of National Sanitation Day

President John Dramani Mahama has honoured the BuzStop Boys, a youthful volunteer group leading a grassroots crusade for a cleaner Accra, with a massive donation of sanitation equipment at the relaunch of the National Sanitation Day initiative.

The former president, who had earlier supported the group with GH¢50,000 when they requested only an aboboya tricycle to aid their operations, reaffirmed his commitment by presenting them with essential cleaning tools.

The donation includes 200 wheelbarrows, 300 shovels, 300 brooms, 300 pairs of gloves, and several standing brushes.

Founded on July 5, 2023, by Heneba Kwadwo Safo, the BuzStop Boys began with just seven passionate volunteers. In a little over a year, the group has expanded to 170 active members.

Their mission, rooted in patriotism, voluntarism, and selflessness, has already seen them clean up 253 sites across Accra, spanning bus terminals, market centres, drainage systems, and major streets.

President Mahama praised the group’s resilience and dedication, noting that their example reflects the spirit of communal responsibility that National Sanitation Day seeks to rekindle.

The recognition of the BuzStop Boys comes at a time when Ghana continues to grapple with waste management challenges. Many see the group as a shining model of youth-driven change and a reminder that citizens have a central role to play in building a cleaner, greener nation.
