Kwaprow Zongo Chief named ECOWAS special envoy for diplomacy

The Chief of the Kwaprow Zongo Community, His Royal Eminence Ambassador Sarki Abdul Karim Dawda Chika Mayei I, has been honoured with the prestigious title of ECOWAS Special Envoy for Diplomacy under the Islamic Council.

This appointment positions the young traditional ruler to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the Islamic Council of Ghana and to foster diplomacy across the region.

At a swearing-in ceremony organised by the International Youth Network for United Nations Security Council Resolution (IYNUNSCR) 2250, the Global President of the network, Dr. Lilian Sally Addo, highlighted the Chief’s exceptional commitment to youth and women empowerment across Africa.

She noted that the network’s mission is to create leadership and capacity-building opportunities for young people, and H.R.E. Sarki Abdul Karim’s leadership in the Zongo community aligns perfectly with that vision.

According to Dr. Addo, the recognition was a result of the Chief’s impactful work as a philanthropist, community leader, and advocate for youth development.

In his acceptance speech, H.R.E. Ambassador Sarki Abdul Karim Dawda Chika Mayei I expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the network for the honour and reaffirmed his dedication to the cause.

“I am humbled and excited to be honoured once again for my service. I take this moment to thank my global leaders and all members of IYNUNSCR2250 for their unwavering support. May mercy guide us as we strive to achieve our goals,” he said.

Speaking to MyNewsGh.com reporter Hajia Asana Gordon, the Chief pledged to use his new role to fight against drug abuse among the youth and promote a drug-free lifestyle.

He issued a strong warning to the youth:

“Stay away from illegal drugs—they can destroy your future.”

The ECOWAS Envoy also called on traditional rulers, Imams, and community leaders to partner with him in curbing drug use and promoting positive change in local communities.

On issues affecting single mothers, the Chief promised to provide support systems that would empower them to care for their children.

He further lamented how many young women fall victim to manipulative men who take advantage of their vulnerabilities under the guise of support. He urged women not to rely solely on men for survival but to strive for self-sufficiency and resilience.
