Legal expert and Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has openly thrown his weight behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s development vision, asserting that no rival has so far proposed a better plan for Ghana.
Taking to Facebook, Bentil wrote:
“I am still waiting to hear plans FOR THE NATION which are better than what DMB has already proposed. So far, none!”
His comment comes as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) begins to reposition itself after its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Although Bawumia lost to former President John Mahama, his role in shaping the party’s policies and identity remains central — and his name continues to dominate discussions as a potential candidate for 2028.
So far, two key figures within the NPP have declared their intentions to challenge Bawumia in the next flagbearership race:
- Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central and runner-up in the 2023 NPP primaries, has confirmed his ambition to contest again. Known for his strong grassroots support and outspoken nature, Kennedy remains a force to reckon with.
- Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Former Minister of Education, has also reportedly declared his intention to join the race. Though not as widely known in political circles for campaign activity, his experience in education reform has earned him a respectable national profile.
Additionally, Kwabena Agyapong, former NPP General Secretary, is said to be quietly preparing for a comeback. While he hasn’t made a formal announcement, his recent public appearances and subtle political engagements suggest serious consideration.
