Kennedy Agyapong sets up anti-rigging squad ahead of NPP flagbearer race

Flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has unveiled an Anti-Election Rigging Squad ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries, slated for January 31, 2026.

The initiative, according to his campaign team, is a proactive response to growing fears of possible electoral malpractice during the contest.

With several opinion polls placing the Assin Central MP as a frontrunner in the race, his supporters say the stakes are too high to risk irregularities. The squad has therefore been tasked to monitor proceedings, safeguard transparency, and ensure that the will of delegates is respected.

In recent weeks, religious leaders and prophets have openly predicted a landslide victory for Mr. Agyapong—if the elections are conducted fairly. However, warnings of potential manipulation have heightened tensions, prompting the establishment of the special response team.

Confirming the development in a social media video, Joojo Rocky Obeng, Director of Elections for Team Ken, said mechanisms are being put in place to closely observe the process and act swiftly against any irregularities.

“We are fully prepared to prevent any attempt at rigging these elections,” Mr. Obeng stressed, adding that the squad would operate strictly within the confines of the law.

The announcement has generated heated debate within the NPP, with some describing it as an intimidation tactic, while others hail it as a bold step to protect democracy within the party.

Mr. Agyapong’s camp insists the move is not meant to cause fear but to guarantee a free, fair, and credible election that reflects the true choice of delegates.
