Gabriel Agambila, founder of Alagumgube, has made a passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to include the Upper East Region in the list of six regions earmarked for the construction of modern stadiums.
In a video recorded at the site of the abandoned Upper East Regional Stadium, an uncompleted project that dates back to 1980, Mr. Agambila expressed disappointment over the decades-long neglect of the facility.
According to him, the site has now become a grazing field for animals and a hotspot for open defecation, symbolizing the broader marginalization of the region.
“While six newly created regions have been promised modern stadiums, the Upper East—one of the oldest regions—is still without a functional facility,” Gabriel said. “I’m calling on all 15 Members of Parliament from our region to come together and lobby President Mahama to remember the Upper East in his development agenda.”
The Alagumgube founder’s remarks have reignited public discourse on the urgent need for equitable infrastructure across Ghana’s regions.
Many residents and youth in the Upper East have since rallied behind his call, demanding that the region not be overlooked in national development priorities.
