IGP Special Operations unit donates 16 units of blood to Bole Hospital

The IGP Special Operations Unit of the Ghana Police Service has once again proven that policing extends beyond enforcing the law. On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the team stationed in Bole demonstrated an extraordinary act of humanity by donating 16 units of blood to the Bole District Hospital.

The donation followed an emergency involving one of their own officers, who had been admitted in critical condition and required four units of blood, only two of which were initially available at the facility. Acting swiftly, the commanders, ASP Bawah Abdul-Jelil and DSP Karim Mahama, mobilized their men for a blood donation exercise to save their colleague and support other patients in need.

DSP Karim Mahama, speaking to the media, underscored that while the core mandate of the unit is to ensure law and order, protecting lives also means responding to humanitarian needs.

“We are always ready to save lives not only through combat but through other humanitarian means such as blood donation. Today, we didn’t just donate to support our colleague but also to help other patients who may urgently need blood,” he said.

The management of the Bole District Hospital, represented by the Nurse Manager and the Administrator, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the timely intervention. As a gesture of gratitude, the hospital presented the police team with cartons of Ideal Milk, bottled water, and assorted drinks.

The donation comes at a crucial time when the ongoing Gbeniyiri conflict between the Gonjas and the Brifos has increased the need for both security and medical resources in the Bole area

The IGP Special Operations Unit’s act of service not only replenished the hospital’s blood bank but also strengthened ties between the police and the local health facility proving that saving lives can take many forms beyond the battlefield.
