GMB 2025 Traditional Fashion Night: Asakia Overpowers Tassala and Nana to Win Star Performance Award

It was a night of colour, culture, and storytelling as contestants of the 2025 Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) pageant took centre stage on Sunday, September 8, to celebrate the richness of Ghanaian tradition through fashion, dance, and drama.

Themed Traditional Fashion Night, the show saw the eleven remaining contestants showcase their regional identities in symbolic costumes, weaving history and heritage into captivating performances.

At the end of the night, the Upper East Region’s representative, Asakia, emerged winner of the coveted Star Performance Award, outshining Tassala of the Northern Region and Nana of Bono East.

Asakia’s presentation retold the story of the Buluk War Regalia, created by the Bulsa people during the slave trade to spiritually and physically protect warriors from slave raiders. Dressed in war horns, helmets, fortified smocks, amulets, boots, and axes, she transported the audience into a scene of resilience and bravery. Today, the regalia remains a central feature of the Feok Festival, symbolizing heritage and resistance.

This latest feat marks her third major award in the competition, and her second Star Performance Award, having first won it during Funeral Celebration Night. She also added the Best Model Award on Fashion Night, further cementing her place as one of the competition’s frontrunners.

The Northern Region’s Tassala also captivated the audience with a moving interpretation of the Baamaya costume, explaining the symbolism of each piece, from the gmaan sooli (head wrap) to the baatoro (skirt), yan’bsa (waist beads), chahala (ankle bells), and the traditional fan. Her mastery of narration earned her the Most Eloquent Award.

The Best Costume Award went to Bono East’s representative, Nana, who skillfully merged regality, humor, and tradition to present a visually stunning performance that won the admiration of judges and fans alike.

However, the night was not without heartbreak. Owubah of the Western Region, a strong contender who had previously bagged three awards on Tourism Night, and Naawere of the Upper West Region, were evicted, cutting short their journeys in the competition.

With the competition heating up, and Asakia strengthening her grip as one of the season’s most dominant contestants, fans are left wondering: Will she keep the momentum and win the ultimate crown?
