The Upper East School Feeding Coordinator and NDC Women’s Organizer, Fawzia Abagnamah Yakubu, has donated GHC 2,000 to support the operationalisation of the Upper East Passport Office.
The donation was made through Alagumgube, a development-oriented group that has long championed a temporal passport office for the region and other infrastructural projects including advocacy for an Upper East regional airport.
The handover was made to the founder of Alagumgube, Mr. Gabriel Agambila who leads the association in mobilising resources for development in the region. Alagumgube has played a pivotal role in rehabilitating a former Ghana Commercial Bank building in Bolgatanga to serve as a temporary passport office, a strategy to bring passport services closer to residents.
In remarks during the presentation, Madam Yakubu said the contribution is in line with her vision of accelerating essential state services in the Upper East. She emphasized that small, targeted contributions can help bridge resource gaps while government infrastructure is being scaled.
Mr. Agambila expressed gratitude and reiterated that Alagumgube remains committed to rallying support from individuals, civic groups, and traditional authorities. He noted that while many have offered donations, such as the GHC 6,000 from the CEO of Happy Man Bitters towards the passport initiative, more is still needed to fully equip and run the facility smoothly.
Beyond passports, Alagumgube has also engaged in airport development advocacy. The group has been commended for clearing parts of a proposed runway site and pushing the airport agenda in partnership with communities and policymakers.
Other contributions to the passport office project have come from traditional authorities. For instance, the Bongo Traditional Council donated an air conditioner to the facility.
Stakeholders and residents have welcomed Madam Fawzia’s donation and similar interventions, noting that they help ease the burden of accessing passport services, which had hitherto required travelling to distant cities.
As Alagumgube continues its drive, it urges more persons, public and private to join the push for a fully operational passport office in Bolgatanga.
