The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo, Hon. Akasake Abaah Joseph, is at the center of a growing controversy after being accused of awarding Ghana School Feeding Programme contracts to his wife and an alleged girlfriend—sparking outrage among party grassroots and raising questions about loyalty and leadership.
The alleged move defies a directive from President John Dramani Mahama that such contracts be reserved for women organizers within each constituency to empower committed female party members. Critics say Hon. Abaah bypassed this instruction and sidestepped due process to favor close personal associates.
“This is pure betrayal. The contracts are meant for loyal women who have sacrificed for the party, not family and lovers,” lamented Akurigo Gladys, a branch women organizer in Boko. “I will cook because the President’s directive overrides any personal decision.”
The scandal has sparked anger within the National Democratic Party (NDC) ranks in Bongo, with many warning that the DCE’s actions could weaken the party’s grassroots support and fuel apathy ahead of the 2028 elections.
Beyond the contract controversy, Hon. Abaah is also being accused of past disloyalty for reportedly abandoning the NDC in 2015 to join the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
His political comeback has now come under scrutiny, as critics question his commitment to the party’s values and goals.
Calls are mounting for the regional and national leadership of the NDC to investigate the matter, with some party members demanding the immediate revocation of the controversial contracts.
As of the time of filing this report, Hon. Abaah had not publicly responded to the allegations.
