Adongo tips Ato Forson as potential NDC future leader

Bolgatanga Central MP Isaac Adongo has lauded Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, describing his performance in office as evidence of a future national leader in the making.

Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV monitored by Newsnetgh, Adongo revealed that he had privately shared this belief with the minister.

“Look, privately I told him I said if you continue on the path that you are continuing, I don’t see the next president beyond you,” he disclosed.

He was quick to clarify that his comment was not an endorsement or a call for Dr. Forson to contest the presidency, but rather an honest assessment of his work.

“I’m not by this saying that Ato contests for president, but it is just to let him understand how I situate the work that he has done.”

According to Adongo, Dr. Forson’s leadership style, focus, and transparency have earned admiration across the NDC.

“He’s a young man. I don’t think he may even be having that contemplation, but just to let him understand that we sitting back, we are impressed with the work that he’s done and that he should keep the focus.”

The MP argued that the finance minister’s approach to governance has strengthened his reputation within the party to the point of influencing electoral prospects.

“If he keeps the focus, he will win the next election for the NDC. There’s no two words about that.”

Adongo also praised Dr. Forson’s oversight of key financial agreements, noting that several contracts requiring parliamentary approval under Article 181(5) and the Public Financial Management Act had previously been mishandled. He said the minister corrected these lapses upon taking office.

He further highlighted renegotiated tax agreements that secured savings for the state.

“Tax exemptions that were overbloated that he was able with his team to renegotiate and give Ghanaians $9 million of benefits lower than what he came to inherit.”

Describing these efforts as proof of genuine leadership, Adongo said Dr. Forson consistently places national interest above partisan advantage, a quality he believes makes the minister stand out as a future force in Ghanaian politics.
