Abronye DC remanded into police custody

Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court.

He is scheduled to reappear before the court on September 12, 2025.

Speaking to journalists after the court ruling, Abronye’s lawyer, Daniel Martey, described the decision as shocking, stressing that the charges leveled against his client were minor.

“The accused person was arraigned before the court, and it appears the prosecution just wanted him to be remanded. For whatever reason, you gave us an invite, we responded, and the charges against my client were just misdemeanors. In law, misdemeanor is the lowest category of offence, and that should not be the basis for remand,” Mr. Martey said.

Meanwhile, the police administration, in an earlier statement, explained that Abronye’s arrest was linked to “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.”

The case has since generated public interest, with observers questioning whether the court’s decision to remand him aligns with the nature of the alleged offence.
