A1 Radio’s Moses Apiah bags double honors at GJA Awards

A1 Radio’s Moses Apiah has been honored as the Best Health Reporter of the Year and Best Climate Change Reporter of the Year at the 4th Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, reaffirming his position as one of the region’s most dedicated and socially conscious journalists.

Apiah’s dual victory reflects his consistent commitment to using journalism as a tool for advocacy and change, especially in communities where access to information can directly influence livelihoods and public well-being. His reporting on health and environmental issues has shed light on how rural populations are adapting to the effects of climate change and navigating healthcare challenges in underserved areas.

Speaking after receiving the awards, Apiah reflected on the state of journalism and the purpose that drives his work. “Journalism today faces unprecedented challenges, from physical attacks to financial strain, allowing those in power to manipulate public opinion,” he said. “Yet, I believe that through collective effort, rigorous fact-checking, and mutual support, we can overcome these obstacles and make a meaningful difference.”

He added that the recognition demonstrates the power of local journalism to inspire change. “Winning these categories implies that at the rural level, we can still make a difference. As journalists, let’s always strive to make that difference,” he said.

Apiah’s success adds to A1 Radio’s dominance at this year’s regional GJA Awards, where the Bolgatanga-based station once again led the region in journalistic excellence. His achievement underscores A1 Radio’s strong culture of impactful storytelling and its continued leadership in shaping conversations around development, health, and climate action in northern Ghana.
