A1 Radio dominates GJA Awards in Upper East

A1 Radio, the Bolgatanga-based subsidiary of Agreed Best Communications, has once again proven that consistency, quality, and integrity remain its hallmark, dominating the 4th Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards held over the weekend.

The station walked away as the night’s biggest winner, reaffirming its status as the heartbeat of credible journalism in the region. Known for its dedication to public interest stories and community development, A1 Radio’s newsroom showcased unmatched professionalism, claiming victories across multiple award categories.

Star reporter Humul Khrusum Tahiru stole the spotlight, grabbing both Female Journalist of the Year and Gender Reporter of the Year—her second time clinching the top female accolade. Her work continues to inspire conversations about gender equality and women empowerment across the north.

Equally impressive was Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith, whose sharp analysis and clear reporting on financial issues earned him the Finance and Economics Reporter of the Year title. Joshua Asaah, renowned for his fearless exposés and dedication to truth-telling, was named Investigative Reporter of the Year, while the ever-dynamic David Azure made a winning comeback as Agriculture Reporter of the Year.

Proving his versatility, Moses Apiah walked away with two honors—Health Reporter of the Year and Climate Change Reporter of the Year—for his consistent focus on environmental sustainability and public health awareness.

The wave of awards highlights A1 Radio’s culture of mentorship, teamwork, and journalistic excellence. General Manager Ebo Bruce Quansah could not hide his pride after the sweeping success.

“Finally, the GJA Awards night is over, and once again, A1 Radio has taken the top position. Congratulations to all our winners, you deserve it,” he said.

Mr. Quansah commended the growth and determination of his team, citing the resilience of returning winners and the emergence of new talents.

“I’m happy with David Azure’s comeback, when you fall and rise, you can walk again. Humul’s second win is proof that consistency pays off. Joshua and Moses have been incredibly dedicated, and Mark’s first award shows the bright future ahead,” he added.

Encouraging the newsroom to aim even higher, he expressed hope that the station’s next milestones would include national recognition.

“Let’s keep working in humility and unity. May these achievements inspire others. Management is proud, and we look forward to more national awards,” he said.

With these remarkable wins, A1 Radio continues to blaze the trail for excellence, cementing its reputation as the Upper East Region’s media powerhouse where journalism doesn’t just inform but transforms lives.
