Businessman Alhaji Seidu Agongo has expressed frustration over being charged alongside his company, Agricult Ghana, in the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) trial.
Speaking on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV, the CEO of Zeera Group found the decision puzzling.
“I was charged with Agricult Ghana, my own company, and it was a surprise. Why charge me, the founder, and then charge Agricult again? I don’t understand,” he said.
Agongo, who was listed as both the second and third accused, questioned the rationale behind the dual charges.
On January 28, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine officially withdrew all charges against former COCOBOD CEO Dr. Stephen Opuni and Seidu Agongo.
State Attorney Enam Loh Mensah informed the court that the Attorney-General had ordered the withdrawal, leading to a formal notice.
Dr. Opuni and Agongo had faced 27 charges, including defrauding by false pretenses, willfully causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, and corruption by a public officer.
The trial, which began in 2018, revolved around claims that they supplied substandard fertilizers to COCOBOD, allegedly resulting in financial losses to the state.
