Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has said he is not surprised that National Security and CID operatives are seeking further information from Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, following his allegations against members of the judiciary.
Speaking on AM Show on JoyNews, Mr Fuseini said the nature of the claims made by Kumi had raised significant public concern, especially given their implications for the ongoing petition against the Chief Justice.
“I am not surprised because the allegations he made against the justices of the superior court of judicature and the lawyer who is representing one of the petitioners, I mean, clearly, it drew some serious concern from the general public,” Mr Fuseini said.
“Except those who are in the legal profession who thought that the likelihood of the justices of the superior court of judicature and a lawyer representing one of the clients meeting at a restaurant, which is a public place, is highly unlikely.”
Adenta Kumi, who has petitioned the President to dissolve the committee investigating the Chief Justice, claims he saw justices of the superior court who are part of the committee meeting with counsel for one of the petitioners.
According to Mr Fuseini, these claims are central to Kumi’s petition and warrant thorough investigation.
“The whole basis of the petition of Adenta Kumi is the alleged meeting between the justices of the superior court of judicature and particularly those who are members of the committee to probe into the petition,” he explained.
“If indeed and in fact the justices of the superior court of judicature sitting on the committee did meet and met with counsel for one of the petitioners, it goes to fan an allegation of collaboration in conspiracy to do the CJ in, and mars the whole process in the sense that you can accuse those people of bad faith.”
Mr Fuseini further added that the petition hinges entirely on whether or not such a meeting took place.
“If those people are acting in bad faith, then they are not fit to be on the committee. That is the basis on which the petition stands. If there is no such existing fact, then the petition cannot stand on its own. An empty fact cannot stand on its own,” he said.
He stressed the seriousness of Adenta Kumi’s claims, saying, “If the reason why Adenta Kumi has petitioned the President to dissolve the committee is on the allegation that he saw these people meet and they were talking about matters concerning the petitions that have been filed against the CJ for her removal, clearly, that will be collusion.”
