Bernard Ahiafor condemns parliamentary clash as needless

The vetting of ministerial nominees on January 30 was marred by a heated clash between the Majority and Minority caucuses in Parliament, drawing widespread criticism over the conduct of lawmakers.

Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, has strongly condemned the altercation, calling it unnecessary and avoidable.

Speaking on Channel One TV with Bernard Avle, he apologized to Ghanaians, stating, “It was needless, it was uncalled for.”

Ahiafor dismissed concerns about vetting nominees late at night, emphasizing that such extended sessions are not unusual in Ghana’s parliamentary history.

“This is not the first time Parliament has vetted nominees past midnight. We have done this before,” he noted.

He also rejected calls for him to have intervened in the brawl, questioning why he was expected to take part.

“I don’t see the need for the fight, let alone talk about separating it,” he asserted.
