Renowned sports journalist Bright Kankam Boadu has urged Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and Sports Minister-Designate, Kofi Adams, to address the unpaid bonuses of the national Amputee Football Team.
Boadu made the appeal during his acceptance speech at the SWAG Awards in Accra on January 24, 2025, where he was honored as Sports Journalist of the Year.
“This is a campaign I’ve been championing,” he said. “The amputee team won the African Cup of Nations, yet their bonuses remain unpaid. One of their own, the team manager, has even passed away during this period of neglect. A nation’s strength is measured by how it treats its vulnerable citizens. Let’s give them what is rightfully theirs and honor their courage in adversity.”
Boadu’s recognition by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana underscores his influence in advocating for the rights of marginalized groups in sports.
