Manasseh Azure warns Mahama of self-serving appointees

Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has urged President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action against corruption within his administration, warning that some ministers and appointees may prioritize personal gain over public service.

In an open letter, Awuni congratulated Mahama on his 2024 electoral victory but emphasized the need for strict oversight to prevent misconduct. His message to the president is direct: “Crack the whip.”

Awuni cautioned that some appointees may exploit their positions for financial gain or to advance their political ambitions.

He noted that some are focused on amassing wealth for retirement, while others aim to build resources for future presidential campaigns.

“With minds contaminated with selfish ambitions, some will soon start looting and misbehaving,” Awuni wrote, urging Mahama to act promptly at the first sign of scandal.

Drawing lessons from past administrations, Awuni highlighted cases where presidents shielded corrupt officials, only for their wrongdoings to come to light later.

He implored Mahama to avoid such mistakes by enforcing accountability early and decisively.
