Black Satellites defender Aaron Essel says the players are determined to ‘leave a legacy’ ahead of their quarterfinal game at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana face hosts Egypt on Monday, May 13, hoping to reach the semifinal of the continental competition and eventually secure a place at the next FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Black Satellites are unbeaten in the competition, having picked up two wins and one draw in the group stage.

While other discussions have been the centre of the competition, Essel is focused on a bigger project with his teammates.

“There’s talk of scouts and agents watching, but that’s not our focus. We’re here in Egypt on a mission to qualify for the World Cup and make Ghana proud,” he said at the pre-match presser.

“We’re not just playing for ourselves; we’re playing for Ghana. We want to leave a legacy.”

Ghana beat Senegal and Central African Republic in the group stage having drawn 1-1 with DR Congo in their opener.
