We all have a role to play in climate action – Steminist Foundation

-

The Founder of Steminist Foundation, Nerrisa Anku has indicated that the government, citizenry, civil society organizations, and non-governmental organizations have roles to play in mitigating climate change in Ghana.

She advocated for programmes and policies to be developed towards promoting renewable energy, agroecology, and community-based solutions in the fight against climate change.

“Our collective power, especially the leadership of women, youth, and local communities is essential to protecting and regenerating our planet. By embracing renewable energy, agroecology, and community-based solutions, we can build a just, resilient, and sustainable future for all”, She said at a gathering to commemorate the 55th Earth Day celebration.

She emphasized that climate action must be people-centered, community-led, and equity-driven, urging the government to support climate actions at the grassroots level for better results.

“We call on government at all levels to recognize and support grassroots climate action, prioritise community-based renewable energy systems, and promote agroecology as a national strategy for sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate resilience”, she said.

She noted that the government must invest in decentralised renewable energy projects to reach rural and underserved communities, reduce carbon emissions, and democratize energy access.

Madam Anku also called for support for agroecological farming policies and practices, particularly those led by women farmers, to regenerate ecosystems, build food sovereignty, and strengthen rural economies.

“Increased funding for women’s and youth-led environmental initiatives, recognising them as key actors in the climate and sustainability movement”, she concluded.
