Former Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has expressed disappointment in former President John Dramani Mahama for not condemning alleged attacks on state properties by NDC-affiliated youth following the 2024 elections.
Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu decried the violence and called on Mahama to publicly denounce such actions.
His comments follow a deadly clash on Saturday, January 18, 2025, where seven lives were lost after illegal miners breached the security perimeter of the Obuasi mine.
The former minister also criticized a journalist for allegedly inciting Obuasi youth to seize the gold mine, labeling such rhetoric as reckless and criminal.
He stressed that under Article 257(6) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, all minerals in their natural state belong to the state, held in trust by the President.
“The Obuasi Mine doesn’t belong solely to Obuasi residents or indigenes. Let us be careful. A coup has not occurred in Ghana. What you sow today, you will reap tomorrow,” he warned, urging adherence to the rule of law to avoid further chaos.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu called for restraint and condemned the violence, emphasizing the need for responsible leadership to ensure peace.
