Hohoe United took another huge step towards maintaining their position atop the Zone Three table, beating Koforidua Semper Fi 2-1 at the Koforidua Sports Stadium on Sunday. William Oduro opened the scoring for Hohoe United with a wonder strike from inside the penalty area in the 4th minute, while Usman Safianu made it 2-0 three minutes later. Ebenezer Kobia pulled one back for the home side in the 41st minute. After an entertaining second half, both sides failed to score as the game ended 2-1 in favor of Hohoe United who sit at the top of the table in Zone Three with 60 points – three points ahead of second placed Port City FC.
In Kukurantumi, the ever improving Port City FC claimed a fourth successive victory without conceding a goal, defeating regional rivals Okwawu United 1-0 on Sunday. Port City FC’s ace Bernard Quarcoo scored the match-winner from a spot kick in the 51st minute as they sit just three points (57) behind leaders Hohoe United (60).
Meanwhile MTN FA Cup semifinalists, Golden Kick SC ended their two-game losing streak with a clinical 5-0 mauling of relegation-threatened Kings Palace FC at the Tuba Astro Turf on Saturday. Joshua Fuseini opened the scoring for Golden Kick SC with a brilliant finish in the 26th minute, followed by Adomba Kofi Aninagyei’s 29th-minute header. Bless Ege made it 3-0 from the spot before substitute Danlad Nuhu hit a brace in the 63rd and 76th minutes for the home side. Golden Kick have secured 34 points from 26 matches and are currently the second-highest scoring side in Zone Three.
