Bawku conflict cost me 2024 election – Dr. John Kingsley Krugu

Former Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and 2024 NPP parliamentary candidate for the Zebilla constituency, Dr. John Kingsley Krugu, has attributed his electoral defeat to the ongoing conflict in Bawku.

In an interview with A1 Radio, Mr. Krugu revealed that the instability in Bawku played a significant role in his inability to win the parliamentary seat.

While reflecting on the outcome, he stated, “The situation in Bawku had a major impact on the election results. The tensions have left many disillusioned and affected our campaign efforts.”

When asked if he would consider contesting in 2028, Dr. Krugu said he was taking time to reflect and would make a decision after handing over his role at the EPA.

“For now, I am focused on handing over my duties at the EPA and will use the time to reflect and strategize on my next steps,” he said.

He also called on newly sworn-in President John Mahama to fulfill his campaign promise to resolve the decades-long Bawku conflict.

“President Mahama assured Ghanaians of a solution to this issue. It is crucial that he delivers on this promise to restore peace and stability to the region,” Dr. Krugu emphasized.

The Zebilla constituency race was one of the most contested in the 2024 elections, with the ongoing conflict in Bawku significantly influencing voter sentiment in the area.
