Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, has locked his Facebook profile following allegations of acquiring state land at an astonishingly low price.
This revelation was brought to light by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Chairman of the Oral Committee, as part of his campaign against state capture.
Ablakwa’s exposé details that the MP purchased prime land in Cantonments in 2021 under terms deemed highly questionable.
According to Lands Commission records, the 99-year lease required Nyarko to pay just GHS42,000 (US$2,800) over four years—a stark contrast to the prevailing market price of US$700,000 to US$800,000.
The controversial deal reportedly involved the rezoning and forceful eviction of existing tenants on the Agric Mechanization land, with Ablakwa accusing the former administration of enabling the transaction.
Critics have described the deal as a betrayal of public trust and a blatant disregard for constitutional provisions governing public lands.
Faced with public backlash, Nyarko locked his personal Facebook profile to avoid further scrutiny, though his official page remains active with no updates since November 2024.
Ablakwa has called for urgent reforms, including his private member’s bill to prevent politicians from purchasing state assets and to mandate transparency in state asset transactions.
He reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption, declaring, “State capture shall be defeated, and the loot shall be recovered!”
