Dr. Rainer Akumperigya named secretary to Mahama’s constitution review committee

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of a Constitution Review Committee to address gaps in Ghana’s constitutional framework, reaffirming his commitment to advancing the Constitutional Review Process.

The committee will build on the work of the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.

Chaired by Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh, the committee includes prominent members such as Justice Sophia Adinyirah, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, and Dr. Esi Ansah. Dr. Rainer Akumperigya will serve as Secretary.

The committee’s mandate includes engaging stakeholders, gathering public input on proposed amendments to the 1992 Constitution, and delivering actionable recommendations to strengthen democratic governance.

President Mahama highlighted the selection of individuals with proven expertise and a commitment to public service to lead the process.

The committee has five months to submit its recommendations for consideration by the Government, according to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President.
