Ghana’s economic turnaround is “divinely guided – Afriyie Ankrah

Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has described Ghana’s ongoing economic recovery as both transformative and divinely inspired, praising President John Dramani Mahama for what he called a renewed national direction.

Speaking at the 2025 Ecumenical Convention of the Council in Accra, Afriyie Ankrah anchored his remarks in biblical symbolism, likening Ghana’s progress to the small yet powerful cloud in the story of Prophet Elijah.

“Just like Elijah’s cloud, the signs may appear small, but they are profoundly significant,” he said, urging Ghanaians not to underestimate the early indicators of positive change.

He insisted that the nation’s trajectory was shifting under President Mahama.

“Anyone who truly understands leadership can see that a great transformation is on the way. Under President Mahama, Ghana is rising again—steadily, boldly, and unmistakably,” he stated.

According to the envoy, the period of uncertainty and economic difficulty that once defined the national mood is fading.

“The era of fear, confusion, and economic hardship that once dominated our national story is coming to an end,” he declared.

Afriyie Ankrah pointed to recent improvements in inflation, the cedi’s stability, foreign reserves, and overall investor confidence as evidence of what he termed “competent governance.”

“What we are seeing today—lower inflation, a stabilising cedi, rising foreign reserves, and renewed investor and consumer confidence—is not luck. It is leadership. It is competence. It is John Dramani Mahama,” he said.

He concluded with a hopeful message, urging the nation to brace for greater economic gains.

“If this is what ‘a cloud the size of a man’s fist’ looks like, then imagine the abundance of rain that is coming. Ghana must prepare because a new season of sustained growth, restored dignity, and global competitiveness is on the horizon.”
