Joint security raid targets attackers of NAIMOS officials

The Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service have launched simultaneous joint operations across the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo Regions to arrest individuals suspected of masterminding recent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and other state officials.

The dawn swoops, which commenced on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, are being carried out in Dadwene and Anwona in the Ashanti Region; Ehi in the Volta Region; and Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani in the Ahafo Region.

In a joint statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director-General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, the operation was described as “targeted and intelligence-led,” aimed at apprehending individuals linked to the violent attacks on NAIMOS officials, police officers, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staff, and journalists.

The security agencies warned that any individual or group seeking to obstruct ongoing anti-galamsey operations or other lawful duties would “face the full force of the law.”

“The Armed Forces and the Police Service wish to assure the general public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of well-meaning inhabitants of these towns and communities,” the statement read, urging residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear.

The joint task force also commended civil society organisations, the media, and individuals who have condemned the recent attacks, describing their support as vital to sustaining the national campaign against illegal mining.

Illegal mining, locally known as galamsey, remains one of Ghana’s most pressing environmental and security concerns. The government’s intensified crackdown, including the latest swoops, underscores its determination to protect law enforcement personnel and maintain momentum in the ongoing fight against the menace.
