Naba Baba Salifu calls for Teacher Training College to uplift education in Bongo

The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Aleemyarum, has urged the government, NGOs, and private individuals to support the establishment of a tertiary institution in the district.

Speaking to Upper East based Bolga FM at his palace on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the chief said the move would serve students from six senior high schools and a private university currently operating in the area.

“Education is our priority because as a deprived district, it is through education that we can get development,” he emphasized.

Naba Baba Salifu noted that a teacher training college would be particularly beneficial, as it would produce qualified teachers to support local schools.

He also expressed concern about environmental issues, especially plastic waste, and appealed to recycling companies to provide district-level recycling plants to improve sanitation and reduce pollution.

The chief further highlighted open defecation as a persistent problem and disclosed that the traditional council has established a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) fund to aid the construction of public toilets and assist low-income households.

“There will be a law enforced to ensure that everybody within the area puts an end to open defecation,” he said.

Naba Baba Salifu stressed that improving sanitation and expanding tertiary education are vital to achieving sustainable development in the Bongo District.
