Bongo DCE raises alarm over poor state of District Hospital

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo, Hon. Joseph Akasake Abaah, has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition of the Bongo District Hospital, describing the situation as a threat to quality healthcare delivery in the area.

Appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, the DCE highlighted the hospital’s dire infrastructural challenges, inadequate medical equipment, and limited staff accommodation as major constraints affecting health services in the district.

In a video capturing the session, Hon. Akasake passionately appealed to the committee to prioritize urgent intervention to save the facility from further decline. He emphasized that the hospital, which serves thousands of residents from Bongo and nearby communities, is struggling to meet the growing healthcare demands due to neglect and lack of resources.

“The condition of the hospital is heartbreaking. Patients are sometimes forced to share beds, and some critical units are nearly non-functional,” the DCE lamented. He further called on the Ministry of Health and relevant agencies to consider the Bongo District Hospital as a special case for immediate rehabilitation and retooling.

The committee members assured the DCE that his concerns would be duly captured in their report and considered in future allocations for district-level health infrastructure.

Residents of Bongo have since welcomed the DCE’s public appeal, hoping that it will translate into swift government action to restore the district’s only major health facility.
