Cyclist James Kumbeni donates uniforms and books to Sawaliga JHS

Climate advocate and cyclist, James Kumbeni, has fulfilled his pledge to combine climate action with education by donating school uniforms and exercise books to students of Sawaliga Junior High School in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

The gesture followed the successful completion of his Climate Action for Education Ride, a cycling initiative aimed at mobilizing resources to support education while raising awareness about climate change.

Before the donation, Kumbeni and his team, KeeKee Cycling Konnect, engaged the students in an interactive session on climate change, stressing the role young people can play in protecting the environment. “Education is one of the most powerful tools we can use to fight climate change. With this conviction, I used my own powerful tool, my bicycle to mobilize resources for this important exercise,” he said.

The Headmaster, staff, and Parent-Teacher Association of Sawaliga JHS expressed deep appreciation for the support but also highlighted other urgent needs, including sandals for students, many of whom attend classes barefooted.

Kumbeni emphasized the need for more attention on rural schools, which often lack basic support compared to their urban counterparts. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Climate Action and Quality Education, through similar initiatives.

The climate advocate extended gratitude to his management team, partner organizations such as Baobab Children Foundation Ghana, and notable supporters including Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Hon. Jasco Maurice Jagri Jalulah, as well as fellow advocates Savior (Flying Flags) and Emmanuel Aondoungwa Myam (Real-Emmiwuks), who are also leading unique awareness campaigns across Africa and beyond.

He also acknowledged traditional leaders, government officials, media houses especially TV3 Ghana and his social media supporters for rallying behind his mission.

“This victory is ours. We did it together,” Kumbeni noted, adding that he remains open to partnerships with individuals, NGOs, businesses, and government agencies to further champion education and climate advocacy in underserved communities.
