Police in the North East Region have arrested a 46-year-old man, identified as Nana Amadu, in Gbintiri near Nalerigu for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs.
The suspect was picked up in an intelligence-led operation at his residence, where officers discovered a large cache of substances believed to be Indian hemp and other drug-related materials. Items retrieved during the search included:
- Seven parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp
- 506 wrappers of a substance believed to be Indian hemp
- Three boxes of brown paper wrappers for Oris Cigarettes
- Three boxes of Oris Cigarettes
- Three packs of Vergra 50mg drugs
- Seventy-three cigarette lighters
- Two bundles of rubber wrappers
During interrogation, Amadu admitted ownership of the items and is currently assisting police investigations.
The North East Regional Police Command has since cautioned the public, particularly those involved in the trafficking, sale, and use of narcotic substances, to desist from such illegal activities, warning that the law will deal firmly with offenders.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned after investigations are completed.
