President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has called on the communications minister to probe Ghana’s contract with KELNIGVG.
He insist the country was shortchanged and that just deciding not to renew their contract would do the country no good.
Franklin Cudjoe believes that a probe into the contract and a cancellation now will be in the best interest of the country.
In a post shared via social media, he maintained his position on the deal being one that was meant to steal cash from the Ghanaian people and nothing else.
His comments come on the back of the current minister’s announcement of not renewing the contract after its expiration.
To Franklin Cudjoe believes that apart from cancelling the contract now, there will be a need for monies paid by the state to the company to be retrieved.
His post read “So, where are the ECG containers?
ORAL, when are you inviting the former communications minister? She should explain why she wasted $179m on a scam telecom revenue monitoring system and left us with close to $200m debt through management of Airtel Tigo, after buying it for One Dollar?
Current Minister, Sam George has stated he won’t be renewing the scam telcom revenue monitoring contract, KELNIGVG. He needs to let us know when the contract is expiring though, because it was to last for 10 years charging Ghana $1.5m every month from 2018 to 2028.
So far not a single report of KELNI’s success has been published. There never was one. So, we do not need the contract to continue until 2028. It must be cancelled NOW! And we need all the millions paid between 2018 and 2025!”.
