Bawumia blames NDC court case for death of late Akwatia MP

Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of contributing to the death of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, the party’s parliamentary candidate for Akwatia.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Chief of Wenchi in the Bono Region on Saturday, August 30, Dr. Bawumia alleged that a legal challenge filed by the NDC against Mr. Kumi drained him both physically and emotionally.

“The NDC’s court case against the late Ernest Kumi, coupled with intimidation, caused him sleepless nights and raised his blood pressure. Twenty-six days after the court’s final verdict, he died,” Dr. Bawumia told the gathering in Twi.

The former Vice President, who is currently on a campaign tour to galvanize support for NPP parliamentary candidate Solomon Asumadu in the upcoming Akwatia by-election, described the late MP as a victim of political harassment.

Dr. Bawumia called on the people of Wenchi and the Eastern Region at large to rally behind Mr. Asumadu, stressing that the NPP remains the only party capable of continuing Ghana’s development agenda.

The NPP leadership, including party executives and some Minority MPs, accompanied Dr. Bawumia on the visit as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support ahead of the fiercely contested by-election.

The death of Ernest Kumi has cast a shadow over the Akwatia constituency, setting the stage for a heated political showdown between the NPP and the NDC.
