The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bongo Constituency, Edward Abesiwine Asekere, has showered praises on the District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee, Joseph Akaseke Abaa, for his unwavering dedication to the party—even at the cost of his own business.
According to Asekere, Akaseke has used his personal beverage retail outlet—originally established as a drinking spot—as an informal gathering point for NDC party faithful.
He noted that the nominee is almost always seen at the venue, engaging party members in meaningful political discussions and offering refreshments, often from his own pocket.
“He has a drinking spot and people have asked several times, ‘this your spot, is it for business or for party people?’” Asekere recounted. “You see almost all the time Joe hosting party people, talking to them… and when you meet people and talk to them, at least at the end, if it’s coke you have to provide, you have to.”
Asekere emphasized that Akaseke operates with limited financial resources, relying solely on his modest business to support these gatherings and other party-related expenses.
Beyond his loyalty to the party, the nominee is also being praised for his generosity and sense of community.
Asekere shared that at one point, Akaseke used his entire salary to purchase and distribute food items to all households within his electoral area—an act that deeply resonated with locals.
“The people like him… he’s patient, he has time for the people, he’s tolerant, and he listens,” Asekere added, highlighting the overwhelming support the nominee enjoys among both constituency and branch executives.
Joseph Akaseke Abaa, currently serving as the Constituency Secretary of the NDC in Bongo, was recently nominated by President John Dramani Mahama as one of 15 individuals for the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) positions in the Upper East Region.
Residents and party faithful are hopeful that if approved, Akaseke’s deep community ties and proven dedication will translate into meaningful development for the Bongo District.
