The Ghanaian government has reduced the cost of acquiring an ordinary passport from GHS 500 to GHS 350.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the decision during a parliamentary session on March 13, 2025, stating that the move aims to make passports more affordable for Ghanaians.
“The government recognises concerns about the affordability of the new passport and is committed to ensuring that the cost remains reasonable while maintaining high security standards,” Ablakwa said.
He further assured that steps would be taken to formalize the reduction. “We will in the coming days be presenting an amendment to the fees and charges to ensure that this reduction is approved. That is the new policy position of the Mahama administration,” he added.
Many Ghanaians have welcomed the announcement, having previously expressed concerns about the high cost of obtaining a passport.
