Mass jubilation erupts in Ghana Police Service over Dampare’s dismissal

There is widespread celebration among police officers following the government’s announcement of the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police (IGP).

In a statement, the government confirmed Dampare’s dismissal, stating that a new IGP would spearhead the modernization of the Ghana Police Service.

Videos circulating on social media show uniformed officers rejoicing, with many seen cheering and expressing relief over the decision. While no official reason has been given for the jubilation, reports suggest dissatisfaction with Dampare’s leadership style.

Critics within the service accuse him of prioritizing his public image over the welfare of personnel.

They claim his leadership was more focused on media engagements than addressing internal concerns.

The government is yet to announce Dampare’s replacement, but expectations are high for reforms under the incoming IGP.
