Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met) has proudly conferred an Honorary Doctor of Science (DSc), Honoris Causa on Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai, the Chief Executive Officer of Telecel Ghana, in recognition of her remarkable contributions to science, technology, engineering, and leadership in the telecommunications sector.
The prestigious award was presented during the university’s 2025 graduation ceremony, held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the institution’s main campus, Accra. The event drew a wide cross-section of society, including dignitaries from government, academia, the private sector, and international partners, who gathered to celebrate academic achievement and honor trailblazers who are making a significant difference in Ghana and beyond.
Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai has carved an indelible mark in the Ghanaian and African tech industry. With a career spanning over two decades in telecommunications and engineering, she has risen through the ranks to become one of the most influential female CEOs in Africa’s telecom landscape. As the first Ghanaian woman to lead a major telecom operator in the country formerly Vodafone Ghana, now Telecel Ghana, Obo-Nai has consistently driven innovation, digital inclusion, and corporate transformation.
Her leadership at Telecel Ghana is marked by a strong emphasis on customer-centric digital services, the expansion of network infrastructure to underserved communities, and strategic investments in next-generation technologies. She has also championed the integration of sustainability and gender equity into corporate strategy, ensuring that business growth goes hand-in-hand with social impact.
In addition to her executive role, Ing. Obo-Nai is a passionate advocate for STEM education and women in technology. She has spearheaded initiatives that mentor and empower young women to pursue careers in science and engineering, and she actively supports education and digital literacy programs across the country.
