Black Queens midfielder, Grace Asantewaa, expressed her excitement and pride after the team’s thrilling penalty shootout win over Algeria in the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals in Morocco. Asantewaa, who was named player of the match, joins Chantell Boye-Hlorkah and Jennifer Cudjoe as top performers in the team’s last three matches.
I’m extremely excited and proud that we’ve made it to this stage. Ghana has been waiting a long time for this, and we’ve mentally prepared ourselves for the challenge. We knew it was a do-or-die situation, and we rose to the occasion’’ Asantewaa said in a post-match interview.
The Black Queens will now face host Morocco in the semi-finals of the tournament.
