I have only 30 appointees at Jubilee house – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to lean governance, stating that his administration currently has only 30 political appointees at the presidency.

His clarification comes in response to allegations by Damongo MP Samuel Abu Jinapor, who claimed Mahama had broken his promise of a lean government by appointing over 100 staffers at Jubilee House.

Speaking at the swearing-in of 13 deputy ministers, Mahama emphasized his administration’s efforts to minimize appointments at the presidency.

“The same commitment to composing a lean government has found expression in the appointments made at the presidency so far. I have appointed 27 presidential staffers to various roles and three persons as directors of important governmental initiatives, bringing the total number of political appointees to 30,” he stated.

He contrasted his administration’s approach with that of the previous government, which, according to him, had 336 political appointees at the presidency.

While acknowledging the need for additional support staff, he assured Ghanaians that his government would not replicate the large-scale appointments of the past.
