A faction of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency has accused Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin of interfering in the selection of a District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.
At a press conference on Monday, the constituency’s NDC Organiser, Frederick Kaninge, described Bagbin’s alleged involvement as “blatant interference” in the party’s internal processes.
He claimed the Speaker was attempting to impose a candidate who was not among the three nominees recommended by the Regional Vetting Committee.
“It has come to our attention that the Right Honorable Speaker is frantically attempting to circumvent the legitimate voting process sanctioned by the party, all in a desperate bid to force a candidate who did not make it to the list of three nominees,” Mr. Kaninge stated.
He warned that such actions could destabilize the constituency and erode trust in the party’s democratic structures.
The group insisted that the vetted candidates were chosen based on merit, loyalty, and service to the party and vowed to resist any attempts to override their selection.
“If this conduct is not halted immediately, it will destabilize the peace and unity of our calm and peace-loving constituency. We will not sit idly by and watch the selfish interests of a few individuals destroy the heart and cohesion of our party,” Kaninge added.
The aggrieved NDC members urged the party leadership to intervene and ensure a fair and transparent selection process.
They reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the party’s democratic values and resisting any imposition of candidates.
As of now, Speaker Bagbin has not publicly responded to the allegations.
