Residents of Seikwa in the Tain District of the Bono Region are reeling from shock after 36-year-old Charles Gyan, an illegal miner and former teacher, allegedly took his own life.
Gyan, known locally as ‘Teacher Kwadwo,’ was discovered hanging from a tree on the morning of Friday, March 7, 2025.
He had recently returned from Hani, where he had been engaged in illegal mining after leaving his teaching career.
Assembly Member for the Brofoyedu Electoral Area, Seth Boamah, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Gyan had informed his son of a trip and handed him a bag before his death.
The police have since moved the body to the morgue as investigations continue.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the economic and mental health struggles faced by illegal miners.
