The Chief Imam of Bole, Alhaji Mohammed Iddrisu, has announced a ban on extravagant wedding celebrations in the Bole area of the Savannah Region, citing the need to align with Islamic teachings and ease financial pressures on young couples.
The directive, which applies to all weddings within his jurisdiction, prohibits practices like music, dancing, and high-cost wedding demands that often burden grooms.
All Imams in the area are mandated to enforce the new regulation.
The move has received mixed reactions, with some praising it as a step toward preserving Islamic values, while others see it as an intrusion into personal and cultural practices.
Despite the divided opinions, the Chief Imam remains steadfast in promoting modesty and ensuring that financial constraints do not deter young Muslims from marriage.
