An explosion at shops selling mining explosives in Odumase, near Konongo in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has claimed one life and injured several others, including firefighters.
The blast, which occurred on [Date], was triggered by a fire at a shop storing dynamites and other mining explosives.
The powerful explosion caused significant damage to buildings and left multiple people with severe injuries, with reports of dismemberment among some victims.
Divisional Officer Grade 2 Joe Bryden, the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Fire Commander, revealed that a resident who attempted to warn firefighters about the impending danger tragically died in the explosion.
“He was trying to warn the firefighters to back off, but before he could escape, the explosion occurred. He was severely injured, and I’ve been told he has passed,” Bryden stated.
The explosion occurred dangerously close to a fuel station, raising safety concerns.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and conducting investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident.
