My comments do not warrant NIB invitation – Abronye

Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, has stated that his remarks do not contain any criminal elements to justify an invitation from the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

Abronye has been invited by the NIB to assist in investigations concerning corruption-related allegations against the President and his government.

He had claimed that the government was withholding GH¢500 million meant for individuals whose appointments had been terminated.

Speaking to Channel 1, Abronye expressed surprise at the invitation, insisting that his comments were not criminal.

“There was money allocated for employees whose appointments were terminated, yet no recruitment was done for that budget. I don’t see any criminality in what I said. I will honor the invitation and see how things unfold,” he said.

He also questioned the motives behind the NIB’s actions, suggesting a possible attempt to suppress free speech.

“After this, we will assess whether this is an effort to reintroduce the culture of silence that was widely criticized in the past. I find it puzzling that the NIB is inviting me while ignoring serious allegations made by current government appointees.”

Abronye further accused authorities of selective investigations.

“There have been wild allegations about gold hoarding and missing funds under the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), yet the NIB has not invited those responsible. We will go and prove that their approach lacks fairness,” he asserted.
