The Upper East Youth Association (UEYA) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Donatus Akamugri Atanga on his appointment as the Upper East Regional Minister.
The association, a non-partisan developmental think tank, has also outlined key developmental projects and initiatives they hope the minister will prioritize to spur growth in the region.
Peace and Security
UEYA is urging the minister to take decisive action in resolving the protracted Bawku conflict, emphasizing that peace is a prerequisite for development.
They also called for broader conflict resolution efforts across the region to foster stability and economic progress.
Infrastructure Development
The association stressed the importance of completing the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam, which is expected to control flooding, generate hydroelectric power, and support agriculture. Other key infrastructure requests include:
- Construction of an airport to improve connectivity and boost economic activities.
- Completion of the Upper East Passport Office to ease access to passport services.
- Installation of functional traffic lights in Bolgatanga and other major towns.
Education and Road Network
UEYA is calling for the completion of E-Block Senior High Schools and the construction of additional classroom and dormitory blocks in schools with limited facilities.
They also highlighted critical road projects that need urgent attention, including:
- Bolgatanga–Bawku–Pulmakom road
- Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Sandema–Fumbisi road
- Sirigu–Zorko Bridge reconstruction
Healthcare
The association is advocating for the completion and equipping of the Upper East Regional Hospital, the construction of polyclinics in Bawku and Bolgatanga, and the expansion of district hospitals in Navrongo, Tongo, and Bongo.
They also emphasized the need for more health professionals in the region.
Agriculture and Industry
UEYA called for the revitalization of the Pwalugu Tomato Factory and Zuarungu Meat Factory to create jobs and boost local industries.
They also urged the minister to ensure the proper reconstruction of One Village, One Dam projects and expand existing dams to support irrigation.
